Just one more week until dreams come true for the young prospects who have been put through countless exercises, drills, tests and media coverage. On April 25-26 we will see 256 players selected to embark on their professional careers and Mixmakers.net will be following every pick.

April 25 is the day to keep in mind as the Detroit Lions look to turn their franchise around with the 1st overall pick and with plenty of trade talks between teams we could see some disgruntled seasoned veterans shipped off to a new team. Be sure to check out all the action live on NFL.com and join in on the discussion on Mixmakers.net as we evaluate picks and trades that happen on the day.

The Chicago Bears come to the rescue. After a long month of disgruntled Broncos QB Jay Cutler headlining the NFL news, today we finally have an ending to the series of events that some have described as childish, unprofessional, confusing and unexpected. Now that it’s all over, let’s see who benefits from this and who could potentially be in a tough position.

Full Trade Details:

Bears Receive:

QB Jay Cutler + 5th Round Pick

Broncos Receive:

QB Kyle Orton + 1st Round Pick + 3rd Round Pick + 1st Round Pick (2010)

First of all let’s start with the Broncos. It’s good that they have finally resolved this issue, but losing a young Pro Bowl QB in the process is something a rebuilding team didn’t need. The Broncos receive Kyle Orton who, despite having a lack of support on the Bears offense, showed some glimpses of being a quality QB. The move to Denver could well help Orton blossom into a star with the arsenal of weapons available at his disposal and with plenty of youth and potential on the team, I can definately see a breakout year for Orton.

The Broncos also receive a 1st and 3rd round pick in the 2009 draft and a 1st round pick in the 2010 draft, definately a good deal for them as they can now bank on filling the lineup with youth. Let’s just hope the Broncos scouts did their homework so as to make the most of this stacked draft. Look for the Broncos to be a dangerous team in the next 2 years.

Now we get to Cutler and the Bears. I’m sure fans will be brimming with joy that they finally have a Pro Bowl QB to lead the offense. While Cutler has proven himself with his time at the Broncos, I can’t see him maintaining that play with the supporting players the Bears offense has. The Bears best playmaker on offense is definately RB Matt Forte who not only rushed for over 1000 yards but he also led the team in receptions with 63. Forte will be a good target for Cutler aswell as TE Greg Olsen who has improved over his first two seasons in the NFL. The only other target for Cutler is WR Devin Hester, he still has some improvement in him as a receiver but his athleticism and skill with the ball could well make him a dangerous target. Cutler will not have the luxury of depth at WR and with the Bears trading off their 1st and 3rd round picks, it may be hard to add to that but it’s definately a need for them and Cutler.

THE FINAL VERDICT:

3rd Place

Chicago Bears

Sure they get a young Pro Bowl QB, but i don’t think they have enough support there for Cutler and they gave up too many good draft picks. I think they shot themselves in the foot by giving up two 1st rounds picks.

2nd Place

Jay Cutler

He finally got his wish and is out of Denver, that’s about the only good I see out of this trade for Cutler but we’ll have to wait and see what he can do with the Bears offense.

THE BIG WINNERS

Kyle Orton and the Denver Broncos

Orton goes to a very productive offense with plenty of guys there who can make him look good while the team is also stacked with high draft picks to build up for the future.

According to various online articles, Brett Favre will end the long 3 month talk of his decision to play on into this upcoming season, as he as packed his bags and left Green Bay, heading for New York.

Around 4pm on Tuesday the 5th of August, reports out of the Packers camp was final – Brett Favre, the three-time MVP, is now a New York Jet. Rumours have it that the trade involved a conditional draft pick that could be of more value, depending upon how the Jets perform in 2008.

Brett Favre apparently had talks with agent Bus Cook, claiming that he was tossing up wether to play for either the New York Jets or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Favre landed in New York on wednesday afternoon with his wife and children, and is ready to get started at training camp.
