What The Lakers Are Missing

For the first time in this year’s playoffs, the Los Angeles Lakers have felt what it feels like to have someone take their heart and drop it into a bucket of boiling tears. At the same time somebody else is hitting their soul in the crotch with a frozen sledgehammer. And then a third guy walks in and starts punching them all in the grief bone (The Office). Or to put it all in simpler terms, for the first time this season, the Lakers have felt what it feels like to be trailing in a playoffs series.

But not to worry Laker fans. The key for turning this ship around can be summed up in two words. Go Retro. And by go retro I mean wear tight booty shorts. If it worked for Magic and his Lakers, who’s to say it won’t work for Kobe Bryant and his Lakers?

Only God knows what the rest of the picture holds.

Simulated NBA Finals – See Who Wins

The TD Banknorth Garden erupts after an exciting Game 1 of the NBA playoffs. Kevin Garnett leads his team in scoring and offensive rebounds. Also a monster on the defensive side of the ball, Garnett’s blocking rampage is reminiscent of the Bill Russell era.

An uncontested Kobe Bryant slam dunk sets the tone early in the first quarter. Kobe and the Lakers never relinquish the lead resulting in a 6-point victory and more importantly, a split of the first two games in Boston.

Paul Pierce has a big game but didn’t match up to Kobe’s near triple-double performance. Kobe’s dazzling dunk rejuvenates the Lakers and the fans at the Staples Center. The momentum shifts towards the Lakers after taking Game 3.

Ray Allen leads the Celtics to an important victory in the Staples Center. Allen’s strong perimeter play gave the Celtics a strong lead early in the fourth quarter and ties up the series.

The battle in the paint was the focus for much of Game 5. Rebounding was the key to the Lakers victory. Gasol outrebounded Celtic muscle-man Kendrick Perkins. Gasol also took a page from Garnett’s Game 1 performance by blocking five shots, and kept his number one rank as the leading shot blocker in the 2008 NBA Playoffs.

The Celtics, led by a strong performance from Paul Pierce, overcame the Lakers to force a Game 7. Pierce went shot for shot with Bryant, tying him in points, and rounded out his game with four defensive steals.

The Lakers win their 15th NBA Finals Championship. After a quiet first half, Kobe scored 29 of his 38 points in the second half in an astounding triple-double performance cementing himself as this year’s NBA Finals MVP.

After seeing the simulated results via ESPN.com, I have come to the conclusion that this is absolutely meaningless but fun to look at none the less. I’ve also come to the conclusion that NBA Live vastly overrates a certain player who will remain nameless – *hint* his last name rhymes with Basol, Casol, Dasol…you get the point. And one more last note. If the Boston Celtics so happen to win Game 1 105-99, I’ll be hitting up the sportsbooks ASAP.

If only Josh Howard was made aware of this video as a kid, there wouldn’t be this hooplah today about his admittance of marijuana use. From Big Game James Worthy’s silky smooth baritone to Pat Riley’s awe inspiring freestyle, this “Just Say No To Drugs,” music video changed the lives of many kids in the 80’s – not including Josh Howard, obviously. Who could ever say yes to drugs after watching this?!

Sasha Vujacic is the Key for the Lakers

The San Antonio Spurs will be hosting the Los Angeles Lakers for the all important Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals. A win for the Lakers would mean a commanding 3-1 lead in their best of 7 series. On the other hand, a win for San Antonio would tie the series at 2-2 and take away any of the momentum the Lakers had after their fast 2-0 start.

If you haven’t been watching this series then you probably don’t know who the biggest (and most unlikely) factor is for both teams. His name starts with Sasha and ends with Vujacic – Voo-Yah-Chich (someone please tell Hubie Brown how to pronounce his name). You can just call him, “The Machine.”
