Affliction is coming back this October with even more star studded names. With the names Tito Ortiz, Babalu Sobral, Fedor Emelianenko, and Andrei Arlovski rumored to be on the card, MMA fans worldwide are expecting another knockout hit from Affliction.
Sources have told Yahoo! Sports that free agent Tito Ortiz will fight Renato “Babalu” Sobral in the co-main event at Affliction’s next fight card, on Oct. 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus in Las Vegas. The main event will feature a heavyweight bout between WAMMA champion Fedor Emelianenko and Andrei Arlovski.
It’ll be interesting to see what Dana White and the UFC does to counter Affliction’s upcoming event. May I suggest Any 185′er vs Anderson Silva with both arms tied behind his back?
MMA’s and EliteXC’s second nationally televised event was a huge upgrade from the first nationally televised MMA event which at times, seemed like a dejavu of The XFL (which to no ones surprise ended as fast as it started). The event was headlined with a rematch of Robbie Lawler vs Scott Smith for the World Middleweight Title.
Like the first meeting between Lawler and Smith, the second was exciting and fast paced. Instead of ruining the outcome for those that didn’t get a chance to watch the event on CBS, below is a video of Robbie Lawler vs Scott Smith. Video starts at the beginning of the 2nd round.
At first there were rumors. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia. Andrei Arlovski vs. Ben Rothwell. These rumors alone made the average MMA fan skeptical from the get go. But then it got even better. Josh Barnett vs. Pedro Rizzo. Matt Lindland vs. Fabio Negao. Babalu Sobral vs. Mike Whitehead. You can’t be serious, can you?
Affliction, the renowned clothing company that equips a number of athletes with these lush shirts, will have their first ever event named “Banned” on July 19th at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The name of their event stems from when their products were banned from being worn by the UFC fighters by the profanity-laced UFC president Dana White. A couple of months later, they announced that they were launching an MMA organization. Instantaneously, they were being called a flop, a joke, and straight up imbeciles. With the main card that I mentioned above, they were slated to lose money…and we mean a LOT of money.
Day by day Affliction gained steam. For their first ever event, they have already sold nearly 10,000 tickets for the Honda Center. Now that my friends, is pretty amazing.
Donald Trump has now partnered with Affliction and is getting into the MMA game. Now whenever you have Trump on your side, you are slated to never go down without a major battle. Regardless, Affliction has done a tremendous job of pulling out a high profile production crew for this event.
World renowned legendary announcer Michael Buffer will be announcing the Affliction event. Megadeth will be performing. Big John McCarthy, Jay Glazer, and Frank Trigg will be commentating and the list simply goes on.
This is certainly the greatest MMA event in years with talent stacked from the preliminary card all the way to the main card. Here is how the card will look like:
Main Card (PPV - $39.95):
Fedor Emelianenko v. Tim Sylvia
Josh Barnett v. Pedro Rizzo
Andrei Arlovski v Ben Rothwell
Matt Lindland v Fabio Negao
Babalu Sobral v Mike Whitehead
Undercard (FOX Sports Net):
Aleksander Emelianenko v. Paul Buentello
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira v. Edwin Dewees
Vitor Belfort v. Terry Martin
Ray Lizama v. Justin Levens
Mike Pyle v. JJ Ambrose
Savant Young v. Mark Hominick
UFC 85 video of Matt Hughes Vs Thiago Alves from the O2 Arena in London.
It looks like the career of an MMA Hall of Famer may be all but over. Matt Hughes was KO’d by Thiago Alves in the second round via a flying knee. It truly is a sad day in the MMA world for anyone who is a fan of pompous, arrogant, a-holes.
Kimbo Slice has been in trouble with the law before!!! Ok I guess it’s not that shocking. As a matter of fact it’s damn right befitting of MMA’s newest circus pony. According to the Smoking Gun, Kevin Ferguson AKA Kimbo Slice was arrested in 2002 on gun possession and open container charges. Kimbo plead no contest to the alcohol charges and was later dismissed of the weapons charges. I tell ya, it’s his sleepy eyes that won the court over. So dreamy aren’t they?
Gina “Conviction” Carano can currently be seen on NBC’s American Gladiators as “Crush.” Gina Carano’s dominance as an EliteXC women’s MMA cage fighter are seen every time one of the American Gladiator challengers takes her on. If you think Gina Carano is great on American Gladiators, you should see her when she enters the EliteXC MMA cage.
Gina Carano is every man’s dream and every girl’s nightmare…inside the cage at least. With an MMA record of 4-0 with 2 knockouts, Gina Carano is the buzz of Elite XC’s nationally televised event, Primetime. Gina Carano vs Kaitlin Young is just one of the many intriguing fights on the card.
Under different circumstances you couldn’t pay me to watch two women fight, but when one of them is Gina Carano, I can make an exception…just this one time.
